Carnivorous Island
Carnivorous Island
Willow weaving
60*25*30cm
2025

This artwork draws inspiration from Yann Martel's enigmatic Carnivorous Island in "Life of Pi," using living willow weaving techniques to create a reclining anthropomorphic form. Spanning three separate pots, the installation emphasizes continuity in nature and the inherent capacity for regeneration.
As a practice within fiber art, the artist investigates the interactive dynamics between plant life and crafted structures, exploring the possibilities of multispecies collaboration and coexistence. The ongoing growth and transformation of the willow endow the work with fluidity and a perpetual state of becoming, encouraging viewers to reconsider the intertwined craft practices and ethical relationships between human and non-human entities.
